Cutting It Short

Trying to find more information about a specific short haircut for African American women..?

There is this new and trendy haircut that I’m finding a hard time learning about. Its a short cut on black women where its “spiked/curled” by a flatiron (or curling iron) usually on top. I was wondering where I can find pics to show my stylist, is there a name for it? Please include any additional information you feel is necessary. Also, those weeks where you are too busy to visit a shop for a touch-up etc. what can you do with a short haircut to get you by those few days your hair won’t be looking so tight?

The most popular haircut right now is the one that Rihanna is wearing. If you are not used to wearing your hair short, this may be an option for you since it’s easy to style. For shorter styles, you can google Halle Berry or Fantasia Barrino. If you can, pick up an Essence magazine or Sophisticate’s Black Hair Guide (also a magazine). There are tons of cuts in there.

In between touchups, you can just wrap the Rihanna style. The shorter styles you can just mold with mousse since the weather is so warm. (I like Paul Mitchell Foaming Pommade instead of mousse. It costs more, but it’s moisturizing and a little goes a long way.) Ask your stylist for a cut that will look great even if you don’t curl it. Also think about how you want to wear your hair when it’s not spiked.
