Women’s short army haircuts for wavy hair?

I’m joining the army and want to cut my hair for basic training. It is currently fairly long – goes to my mid back. The problem is that I straighten it EVERY day after it dries because if I don’t, its all wavy and semi-curly, and frizzy and gross. Obviously I will not be drying and straightening my hair every morning at bootcamp, so I was wondering what some alternative options are for my kind of hair. It’s tough because most of the traditional girls short haircuts only work for straight hair….any ideas or pictures would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like we have similar hair. The answer to not having frizzy long hair is to use hair products. I take 3 different kinds of products and mix them in my palm before putting them on my hair. I call this my conditioner cocktail. I use some type of leave-in conditioner, a small amount of some type of greasy “shine” product, and a smoothing balm. Don’t use too much of the greasy shine product-as it will make your hair greasy! However, the small amount helps to prevent the frizzies. Experiment with different amounts and products until you get something you like. You may decide not to cut your hair! You apply all of this after towel drying your hair. Also, I don’t blow my hair dry, I let it air dry. Then I spray a heat-protection spray on my hair. Once it is all dry, I use a curling iron that is at least an inch in diameter. I pull it through my hair from roots to end, not staying more than 5 seconds in any one area. This totally smooths out my hair and gives it a controlled wavy look. Experiment with the direction of the wave. Lately I like turning the curl toward my front-it’s not as curly. If you do it toward your back, it is a lot more curly. You can brush the curls smooth or run your fingers through it and it will have a lot of curls. Very fun. Also makes nice ponytails.

Another trick, especially if you have thin hair, is not to use the curling iron on the last inch of hair. It will make it look a lot thicker. My hair is already thick, so I’m pulling it all the way through to the end.

I only wash my hair once every three days. I wouldn’t (couldn’t) do this every day-especially since I air dry. I also color my hair, which makes it dry and it shouldn’t be washed as much.
