Cutting It Short

Does thick hair work for a Peter Pan-style haircut, and if so, can you show me pictures?

I’m trying out for the show “Peter Pan” at a local community theater, and I’ve done lots of shows there, so the directors know me and know I can handle leads. I think I have a pretty good shot at getting the role of Peter, but that would require me cutting my nearly waist-length thick, wavy blond hair into a pixie-like cut. Would thick hair work for this kind of cut? And how long could I leave it to where it would still look like a style Peter Pan might wear? (I don’t want short hair forever.)
