Black People (Or those who know about black hair), how can I make my hair grow faster?
So, I’m black and I’m going off to college in a few weeks. The thing is, I want to get a new hairstyle but i have had a really short haircut for awhile and in order to choose another I want to grow it out. The time limit is two weeks and I need an afro by then…what do I do? Also, I dont want any myths like “Put eggs in your hair”.
Well everyones hair grows about the same rate. (1/2 to 1 inch per month-depending on genetics, not race). you cant make you hair grow faster, unfortunately. The thing with most black people’s hair is that it breaks really easily, so i suppose it appears that it grows slower.
What i suggest to reduce breakage by using conditoner and oil(or grease, whichever). don’t comb it a lot. Wash it like once a week. keep it moisterized. Um when your hair gets long enough do twists or dreads (but dont let them loc up), or cornrows. These styles reduce breakage and keep you from over combing your hair.
I doubt you will have an afro in two weeks, but maybe a couple a months. Good luck in school! (don’t oparty to hard..lol) Hope your hair turns out good.
ps. for a side note, in college i would suggest you keep your hair low cut and neat, only because you want to show your professers that you are “professional” and not some hoodlum. (i like long hair on guys but in reality to be taken seriously, esp as a black guy, crazy hair could hold you back….just saying, but for your freshman year i suppose you could grow it out..)
