Cutting It Short

I have short fine hair thickness. Is the "notch" cut better than the razor cut for body and texture?

My hair grows very thick, but okay. It is a struggle to not be limping. From Redken stopped production of concrete, I have to wash and dry so use too many products to keep it interesting. Today razor cut, but I heard a notch "cut may work better. Is it a common technique that my stylist could try?
