How do I curl my layers of short hair?

I recently got my hair cut in a different style, and I would like to start curling it, but I really do not want to use an iron, and to destroy my hair. My hair is about the average length of neck and my bangs are somewhat beyond the eyebrows. Also there are very few layers in hair.
