does all short curly hair look like an afro at first? (black women with natural hair)?

Hi I recently went natural. I am almost 5 months into the process and i love my hair, but i am noticing that my hair isn’t kinky. It’s curly but has a lot of frizz and doesn’t really have ringlets. I suppose it’s like that bc it’s only 4-5 inches long. Does all curly hair kind of look like a curly afro in the beginning? It’s not growing out but i can’t really get my curls to be defined. I need some help.

Also I would like someone who has some knowledge of natural african american hair. Please don’t answer my question unless you are somewhat knowledgeable of the subject matter.

My hair is about 2 inches and curly, so it’s not really defined as an afro, yet, just a cute, short, curly “do.” Before this my hair was a bit longer like maybe 3 inches long and it was technically an afro, but I wore it as a curly fro because I didn’t comb it out. The only way for me to get another style other than the curly fro is if I used gel and tried to do something with it.

To answer your question, no, not everyone will have a fro. I think it depends more on your curl pattern than anything. 4a/b will be able to easier get a fro than someone with a looser texture. I’m probably going to be a 3c, but I don’t know until it grows out more. You might have to try different products to get your curls to pop. There are many products for curly hair on the market and I’ve heard a lot about Miss Jessies, Hairveda, and some other products that are made specifically for curly hair. I’ve heard some people have to define their curls with gel. Since my curls are not very loose I only need a cream moisturizer to make my hair curly. The only thing I can advise is to get some tips from hair forums, but it probably depends on how loose your curls are. It also seems like the longer one’s hair gets the harder it is for them to define their curls – just my observation.
