curly hair cut too short-curls are gone?!?

ok so, I wanted to get my hair cut shorter for summer. I had really long, thick curly hair that went to the middle of my back. All the hair curled in ringlets at the ends of the strands and though it looked nice, the curls weighed down the top of my head and made the top look flat. And it was unmanageable for the summer.
So I asked the hairdresser to take about 4 inches off and to make it layered so that I got more volume at the top. so now I have more volume but she snapped off all my curls!!! I thought that the way she had cut it, it would still be curly but now I’m afraid that she’s ruined my curly hair!
Is this just because its too short? or are the culs never coming back?
will they come back if I let my hair grow and then ask some one who KNOWS how to cut curly hair to give me curls again??

well i know that happened to my friend’s little sister once – she had really curly hair and then her hair stylist cut it all off and she’s had wavy hair ever since. idk. i know when i cut my hair shorter it just got curlier. everyone’s different. your curls will probably come back in time.
