Men’s haircut: blocked or tapered?
I went for a haircut today, but the barber I usually have wasn’t there. I asked the new barber for a short back and sides, which is what I usually have. It was all fine until about halfway through, he asked me if I wanted the back “blocked or tapered”. I didn’t know what he meant – my usual barber never asked me that – so I told him to do whatever he thought looked best.
When he was done, the haircut looked good from the front, but when I got home and checked in the mirror, I noticed that he’d shaved the back really short (I think a #1) really high up the head. It’s a bit military-looking for my liking.
Can anyone explain the “blocked or tapered” thing to me? What’s the difference, and what looks better?
My barber talks about squared or tapered which I think is the same thing. Blocked or squared is where the barber makes a straight line across the neck with the hair all one length- so it has grown down to where he trims it off. Tapered is where he shaves it up the wayso it is shorter at the base aof your neck and longer as you go further up your head. Hope this helps.

Mulan: An Original Walt Disney Records Soundtrack $12.98 Lea Salonga, best known as the voice of Jasmine in Aladdin, steals the show here as the title character in Disney’s Mulan. The former star of Miss Saigon adds touching elements to the feature, especially on introspective numbers such as “Reflection.” Unfortunately, the voice of Donny Osmond, relegated to anthems such as “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” doesn’t really enhance the story line, a saga set… |

Tchaikovsky – Swan Lake (Matthew Bourne) $29.96 Swan Lake became an unexpected popular hit when radical choreographer Matthew Bourne took Tchaikovsky’s traditional ballet by the scruff of the neck and reworked it with a myriad of modern influences and themes to astonishing effect. Seldom have the dark psychological riptides at the heart of so many classical ballets been so brilliantly exposed. The Prince (Scott Ambler) is a wretched and diss… |
